St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands is nothing short of pure magic. With well over 70% of the island being part of the Virgin Island National Park and a coastline dotted with turquoise bays, you can’t help but fall in love.
This small island is just a quick 20-minute ferry ride from St. Thomas but feels worlds away.
I planned a girls getaway with my friends: Rose, a professional photographer, and Crystal, a professional model. You can rest assured that we took a boatload of photos.
We arrived in St. John without even knowing where to pick up our rental car. We had rented from a local agency, Sunshine’s Jeep Rental, and figured we could walk through town from the ferry dock to their office just up the street once we make it to the island. When we disembarked from the ferry, the Sunshine car rental agent met us right on the docks. Our car was all set and ready to go. It was by far the best car rental pick-up experience I have ever had. No waiting in lines, filling out the paperwork and jumping through hoops about what insurance you did and did not want.
The rest of our journey on St. John followed suit. It was easy in a way that was almost unfamiliar in our chaotic 21st-century lives. I am not sure if it was the time of year that we visited (November) or the fact that primary hotels remained closed after Hurricane Irma, but island felt quiet and serene. Sometimes it felt as though we had the place to ourselves.
This trip marked my second visit to St. John. Even though it is a small island and you can see it all in a couple of days, it is one of those places you can see yourself going back to over and over again.
We spent our days on this little U.S. Virgin Island exploring, beach bathing, swimming, photographing ruins and unbelievable vistas and hiking. Before I get into more details on the island, I wanted to dive in with a couple of my favorite photos from the journey. I hope the following 35 photos inspire you to visit this wonderful little island in the Caribbean.
